Day Five: Follow Jesus

Posted by David Weir

Matthew 16:24-27 (New King James Version)
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

This morning I realized how long twenty-one days really is. And then I thought, "it's not really that long". The truth is, our desires control our behavior and over these weeks we are cultivating a stronger desire for Jesus. We are denying ourselves in order to see the will of the Father accomplished on the Earth. Just keep the focus on Jesus and the Word of God, and your desires will follow Him.

Practical Tip

If you are doing any kind of fast for the full twenty-one days, just settle in now for the long haul. Enjoy the lifestyle change and pray, pray, pray. God wants us to chase after His presence, that's where all the answers are. If you can get a copy, please read Norvel Hayes's little book, "How to Live and Not Die".

That verse is what I needed. 21 days for our soul. That is not much to really ask for. He gave his Son and all we have to do is deny ourselves and follow him. Thank You Jesus!

Pastor, words cannot express how much I appreciate your daily encouragement! It is such a blessing to know that we have a pastor that is so dedicated in seeing God move among His people. And above all it is so wonderful to know that we have a Saviour that loves us so much and wants to fellowship with us in our daily walk with Him. Praise your holy name LORD!
