Fasting for God's people.

Esther 4:15-16 (New King James Version)
15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: 16 "Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish."

Daniel fasted for twenty-one days for the vision. He would not have received the understanding of the vision unless he had persevered through prayer and fasting. Ezra led the people in a three day fast for direction, protection, and blessing. He deliberately put his trust in the Lord for their journey. Esther could have protected herself, but she chose to put her life on the line for her people, and she sought the Lord for protection and favor. None of these battles would have been won without prayer and fasting.

Today is day three, the breakthrough day. I have already heard two great testimonies of God's goodness and we can expect many more. Today is Baal Perazim, "The Lord Breaks Through".

2 Samuel 5:17-21 (New International Version)
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold. 18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; 19 so David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD answered him, "Go, for I will surely hand the Philistines over to you."
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, "As waters break out, the LORD has broken out against my enemies before me." So that place was called Baal Perazim. 21 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.

Fasting Tip for Wednesday: Praise and worship is a choice. Some of the most powerful times in God's presence begin with obedience that refuses to be affected by how we feel. Finish strong by setting time aside for prayer.
